Every analogue and ISDN line stops working on 31 January 2027

Openreach is retiring the copper network. Analogue lines, ISDN30, ADSL and FTTC will stop carrying calls — along with anything wired through them, including lift lines, alarms and card terminals. Stop-sell is already live at most exchanges, so in much of the country you can no longer add or move a legacy line even today.

The Webex platform

One platform. Three things it replaces.

Most businesses arrive with a phone system from one vendor, a meetings product from another and room hardware from a third. Webex collapses all of it into a single subscription and a single admin console.

Everything your team uses to talk, in one licence

Eight workloads under one subscription, with the Webex AI Assistant running across all of them — writing summaries, listing actions and catching up anyone who joins late.

  • Real-time translation. Live captions and translation across a wide range of languages — the practical difference when a team spans London, Warsaw and a German office.
  • Webinars and events at scale. Branded broadcasts for up to 100,000 attendees, with registration, moderated Q&A and attendance reporting.
  • Noise removal that works. Background noise suppression and speaker framing that make an open-plan office usable for client calls.

UK & EU data residency

Your data stays in your region

This is the question that decides Webex deals for European firms, and it has a clean answer. Cisco runs separate calling regions across EMEA, with European customer content held in Frankfurt and Amsterdam rather than crossing the Atlantic. Cisco was also among the earliest adherents to the EU Cloud Code of Conduct, the first official code under GDPR, and Webex meets German C5 and Spanish ENS requirements.

Region

UK

For organisations headquartered in the United Kingdom, held separately from the EU regions post-Brexit.

Region

EU

Frankfurt and Amsterdam data centres holding user content, profiles, analytics and billing data.

Region

EU Native

A tighter EU-resident option for organisations under stricter sovereignty obligations.

Worth knowing: the calling region is fixed when the subscription is created and cannot be changed later. Getting it right at order stage is exactly the sort of detail we exist to catch.

Webex alongside Microsoft 365

You do not have to pick one and bin the other

We are a Microsoft Solutions Partner as well as a Cisco Partner, so this comes up in almost every conversation. In practice most organisations run Teams for internal chat and documents, and Webex for telephony and meeting rooms. Here is the honest split.

How we deliver it

Five phases, no cutover weekend surprises

Telephony migrations fail on the details nobody audited: the fax line in the warehouse, the lift phone, the DDI only finance uses. These phases exist to find those before the port date.

  1. Phase 01

    Line and flow audit

Every line, DDI and ISDN channel catalogued, including alarms, lifts and payment terminals. Current routing documented as-is.

  2. Phase 02

    Design and region

Licence mix, device schedule, network readiness check, and the calling region decision made deliberately — because it is permanent.

  3. Phase 03

    Build and pilot

Control Hub configured, call flows built, directory synced from Entra ID, and a pilot group live on real numbers for two weeks.

  4. Phase 04

    Porting and cutover

Numbers ported in scheduled batches with the old system kept live in parallel. Users provisioned and verified ahead of the switch.

  5. Phase 05

    Adoption and support

Floor-walking, role-based training, then ongoing moves, adds and changes through our service desk.

Questions we get asked

Cisco Webex FAQs

Can I keep my existing phone numbers when moving to Webex Calling?

Yes. UK geographic numbers, 03 non-geographic ranges and EU DDIs all port to Webex Calling. Porting typically takes 10 to 15 working days once paperwork is submitted, and we keep your existing system running in parallel until the port completes, so there is no window where calls go unanswered.

What happens to my phone system when the PSTN switches off in January 2027?

Analogue lines, ISDN30 and anything else running over copper will stop carrying calls on 31 January 2027. Stop-sell is already in force at most exchanges, so you often cannot add or modify a legacy line even now. If no action is taken, providers may default the line to a basic emergency-calls-only fallback. Webex Calling replaces those lines entirely while keeping your numbers.

Where is Webex data stored for UK and EU customers?

Cisco operates distinct calling regions across EMEA, including UK, EU and EU Native. European customer content, profiles, analytics and billing data are held in EU data centres in Frankfurt and Amsterdam. The calling region is selected when the subscription is created and cannot be changed afterwards, so it is worth deciding deliberately at order stage.

Can Webex work alongside Microsoft Teams?

Yes, and it is a common pattern. Many organisations keep Teams for internal chat and documents while using Webex for telephony and meeting rooms. Cisco room devices join Microsoft Teams and Zoom meetings directly, and Cisco hardware is also certified for Microsoft Teams Rooms. As both a Cisco Partner and a Microsoft Solutions Partner, we design the two to complement each other rather than duplicate.

What internet connectivity does Webex Calling need?

Voice quality depends on consistent latency and jitter rather than raw bandwidth. As a rough guide, allow around 100 Kbps per concurrent call, with quality of service configured on your firewall and switching. We carry out a network readiness assessment before any migration, and can supply dedicated leased line connectivity where a shared broadband service is not dependable enough.

Which Webex plan should we be on?

Most businesses land on Webex Business, which removes the 40-minute meeting cap, adds cloud recording with transcripts, the AI Assistant, and full admin and analytics. Enterprise is worth it if you need capacity up to 1,000 attendees, unlimited cloud recording or a higher security tier. If you are replacing a phone system, Webex Calling is licensed alongside the suite — we work out the right mix and quote against your actual user profile.
